Before we came to earth, we lived with our heavenly parents. They loved us! Heavenly Father had a wonderful plan for us. We would come to earth so we could get a body and learn and grow. Then we could come back to live in our heavenly home. But we couldn’t do it on our own. We would need help.
|
|
Antes de venir a la tierra, vivimos con nuestros Padres Celestiales. ¡Ellos nos amaban! El Padre Celestial tenía un plan maravilloso para nosotros. Vendríamos a la tierra para poder recibir un cuerpo, y aprender y crecer. Luego podríamos volver a vivir en nuestro hogar celestial, pero no lo podíamos hacer solos. Necesitaríamos ayuda.

Heavenly Father chose our oldest brother, Jesus Christ, to come to earth to help us. Jesus showed us how to love others and follow Heavenly Father’s commandments. He chose Apostles to lead His Church.

Then Jesus suffered for us in the Garden of Gethsemane. He felt all of our pains and sadness. He died for us on the cross. Because of this, we can turn to Him when we are hurt or sad or need help. We can repent when we do something wrong.

Después Jesús sufrió por nosotros en el Jardín de Getsemaní; sintió todos nuestros dolores y sufrimientos. Murió por nosotros en la cruz. Gracias a eso, podemos acudir a Él cuando nos sentimos heridos, estamos tristes, o necesitamos ayuda; nos podemos arrepentir cuando hacemos algo incorrecto.

On the third day after Jesus died, He was resurrected. Jesus was alive again! Because of this, we will be resurrected too. We can live with our heavenly parents after we die.

El tercer día después de que Jesús murió, resucitó; ¡Jesús estaba vivo otra vez! Gracias a eso, nosotros también resucitaremos. Podemos volver a vivir en el cielo después de morir.

|
After His Resurrection, Jesus visited His disciples in Jerusalem and in the Americas. He asked His Apostles to keep teaching people about His gospel. Many people who heard the Apostles were baptized and joined the Church.

Tras Su resurrección, Jesucristo visitó a Sus discípulos en Jerusalén y en las Américas. Pidió a Sus apóstoles que continuaran enseñando a las personas sobre Su evangelio. Muchas personas que escucharon a los apóstoles se bautizaron y se unieron a la Iglesia.

After the Apostles died, people began forgetting some important parts of Jesus’s gospel. They stopped believing that Heavenly Father would always inspire His children on earth. They forgot that everyone on earth would have a chance to be baptized. They stopped believing that prophets and apostles would always lead the Church.

Después que los apóstoles murieron, las personas comenzaron a olvidarse de algunas partes importantes del evangelio de Jesús; dejaron de creer que el Padre Celestial siempre inspiraría a Sus hijos en la tierra. Olvidaron que todas las personas de la tierra tendrían la oportunidad de bautizarse. Dejaron de creer que los profetas y los apostoles siempre dirigirían la Iglesia.

Many years passed. Finally, it was time to bring back the missing parts of Jesus’s gospel. It was time to restore His Church! Heavenly Father needed someone to be a prophet and help bring it back to earth. He chose a young boy named Joseph Smith.
|
|
Pasaron muchos años. Al fin llegó el momento de traer de vuelta las partes que faltaban del evangelio de Jesús. ¡Era el momento de restaurar Su Iglesia! El Padre Celestial necesitaba a alguien que fuera un profeta y ayudara a traerla a la tierra de nuevo. Escogió a un joven llamado José Smith.

|
On a beautiful spring day around Easter time, Joseph went to the woods near his home. He knelt and started to pray. Then Joseph felt a dark feeling. Satan was trying to discourage him. But Joseph kept praying with all his might.

Then a beautiful light came down. Joseph saw Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. This is called the First Vision. They said that Jesus’s Church wasn’t on the earth. But it would be soon. The Restoration was beginning!

Heavenly Father sent angels to restore important parts of the gospel. The angel Moroni gave Joseph the gold plates so we could have the Book of Mormon to help us learn about Jesus Christ.

John the Baptist brought the Aaronic Priesthood back so we could be baptized. Peter, James, and John brought back the Melchizedek Priesthood so we could receive the Holy Ghost and have blessings when we are sick.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized. That means Jesus’s Church is back on earth! All of these things are part of the Restoration.

The Restoration of the gospel is still going on today. Prophets, apostles, and missionaries are sharing the good news of Jesus Christ all over the world. Temples are being built in many lands so people can be sealed to their families forever. And the Church is helping people in places where there is hunger or disaster.

La restauración del Evangelio continúa hoy en día. Los profetas, apóstoles, misioneros y miembros están compartiendo las buenas nuevas sobre Jesucristo por todo el mundo. Everyone can do something to help with the Restoration. You can help by learning about your family history and doing temple baptisms. You can give tithing to build churches and temples. You can give fast offerings to help people in need. You can tell people about Jesus Christ.

Todos pueden hacer algo para ayudar con la Restauración. Tú puedes ayudar al aprender sobre tu historia familiar y hacer bautismos en el templo. Jesus gave us His Church to help us return to our heavenly parents. We can take the sacrament and always remember what He did for us. We can show love to others, as He did. We can help everyone learn about His gospel!

On April 6, 1830, there was a special meeting in a log house. Joseph Smith set up Jesus Christ’s Church again on earth.

One day Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon were reading the scriptures. They had a vision. They saw Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

Joseph prayed, and the Lord answered. The Lord warned members of the Church about smoking and tobacco. He said they aren’t good for our bodies. He also warned them about drinking tea, coffee, and alcohol.

God said to eat fruits, vegetables, and other healthy foods. We call these teachings the Word of Wisdom.

When the temple was finished, the Saints went inside. They sang a hymn and shouted “Hosanna!” Joseph said a prayer to dedicate (bless) the temple.

A week later, Jesus Christ visited Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery in the temple. Jesus said that He accepted the temple as His house.

Today there are temples all over the world! Each temple is a holy place. Someday I will go inside and make promises with God.

They went to a new place to live. They built houses and towns. They built new temples.

Missionaries went to many countries. They taught others about Jesus Christ. More people were baptized. The Church grew.
