Before we were born, we lived in heaven with our Heavenly Father. He taught us about His plan of happiness.
|
|
Antes de nacer, vivíamos en el cielo con nuestro Padre Celestial. Él nos enseñó sobre Su plan de felicidad.
|
|
|
|
Heavenly Father said we would come to earth to get bodies. We would learn and make choices. Sometimes we would make mistakes. We would need a Savior.
|
|
El Padre Celestial dijo que vendríamos a la tierra a obtener un cuerpo. Aprenderíamos y haríamos elecciones; algunas veces cometeríamos errores y necesitaríamos un Salvador.
|
|
|
|
The Savior would show us how to live. And when we made a wrong choice, we would be able to repent.
|
|
El Salvador nos enseñaría cómo vivir, y cuando hiciéramos una elección equivocada podríamos arrepentirnos.
|
|
|
|
Jesus said, “Here am I, send me.” Heavenly Father chose Him to be our Savior. Jesus promised to come to earth to save us.
|
|
Jesús dijo: “Heme aquí, envíame”. El Padre Celestial lo escogió para que fuera nuestro Salvador. Jesús prometió venir a la tierra para salvarnos.
|
|
|
|
I can follow Jesus. Someday I can go back and live with Heavenly Father.
|
|
Puedo seguir a Jesús. Algún día podré volver y vivir con nuestro Padre Celestial.
|
|
|
|
The Creation

|
|
|
Long before I can remember, God created a beautiful place for me to live.
|
|
Mucho antes de lo que puedo recordar, Dios creó un hermoso lugar en el que yo pudiera vivir.
|
|
|
|
When He began making the earth, He separated the day from the night. He made the sun, moon, and stars so I would always have light to guide me.
|
|
Cuando Él comenzó a crear la Tierra, separó el día de la noche. Creó el sol, la luna y las estrellas para que yo siempre tuviera luz para guiarme.
|
|
|
|
He created the sky, seas, and land. He covered the earth with all kinds of plants.
|
|
Creó el cielo, el mar y el suelo. Cubrió la Tierra con toda clase de plantas.
|
|
|
|
He created birds to fly in the sky, fish to swim in the seas, and animals to live on the land.
|
|
Creó aves para que volaran por el cielo, peces para que nadaran en los mares y animales para que vivieran sobre la tierra.
|
|
|
|
Whenever I see God’s creations, I feel reverence and love for Him. I’m grateful He made this earth for me.
|
|
Cuando veo las creaciones de Dios, siento reverencia y amor por Él. Siento gratitud por esta Tierra que creó para mí.

|
|
|
|
|
Heavenly Father and Jesus created the earth. They made the land, sea, sun, and stars. They made plants and animals. Then the earth was ready for Heavenly Father’s children. Who would He send to live on the earth first?
|
|
El Padre Celestial y Jesús crearon la tierra. Hicieron el campo, el mar, el sol y las estrellas. Hicieron plantas y animales. Entonces la tierra estuvo lista para los hijos del Padre Celestial. ¿A quiénes enviaría primero a vivir en la tierra?

|
|
Heavenly Father put them in the Garden of Eden. All the food they needed grew in the garden. They did not have to work. They did not get sick.
|
|
El Padre Celestial los colocó en el Jardín de Edén. Toda la comida que necesitaban crecía en el jardín. No tenían que trabajar. No se enfermaban.
|
|
|
|
Heavenly Father told Adam and Eve that if they ate some fruit from one of the trees, they would have to leave Eden. Satan tempted Eve to eat the fruit, and she did. So did Adam.
|
|
El Padre Celestial dijo a Adán y a Eva que, si comían frutos de uno de los árboles, tendrían que dejar el Edén. Satanás tentó a Eva a comer del fruto y ella lo comió. También Adán.

|
|
|
Their choice to leave Eden was part of Heavenly Father’s plan.
|
|

|
|
|
|
After they left Eden, Adam and Eve learned to pray, repent, and have faith in Jesus. They became parents and taught their children the gospel. Life outside Eden was harder, but they learned important new things. They were happy.
|

Después de dejar el Edén, Adán y Eva aprendieron a orar, a arrepentirse y a tener fe en Jesús. Llegaron a ser padres y enseñaron a sus hijos el Evangelio. La vida fuera del Edén era difícil, pero aprendieron importantes cosas nuevas. Eran felices.

|
I am like Adam and Eve. I chose to come to earth so I could learn, grow, and become more like my Heavenly Parents.
|
|
Yo soy como Adán y Eva. Elegí venir a la tierra para que pudiera aprender, crecer y llegar a ser más como mis Padres Celestiales.

|
|
A long time ago, people on earth were making bad choices. God sent a brave prophet named Noah. He told the people that they should repent and love God. Did they listen? No! They kept doing bad things.
|
|
Hace mucho tiempo, las personas que estaban en la tierra estaban tomando malas decisiones. Dios envió a un profeta valiente llamado Noé. Él dijo a las personas que debían arrepentirse y amar a Dios. ¿Lo escucharon? ¡No! Siguieron haciendo cosas malas.

|
God told Noah that He would get rid of the bad things on the earth. God told Noah to build a big boat called an ark. Noah gathered his family and animals inside the ark. Then it started to rain.
|
|
Dios le dijo a Noé que Él quitaría todas las cosas malas sobre la tierra. Dios le dijo a Noé que construyera un gran barco llamado arca. Noé reunió a su familia y animales dentro del arca. Entonces empezó a llover.
|
|
|
|
It rained for 40 days and 40 nights. The whole earth was covered with water! Noah and his family and the animals were safe inside the ark.
|
|
Llovió durante cuarenta días y cuarenta noches. ¡Toda la tierra estaba cubierta con agua! Noé, su familia y los animales estaban seguros dentro del arca.
|
|
|
|
Finally the rain stopped. The floodwaters went down. Noah saw a rainbow in the sky. God promised to never flood the whole earth again.
|
|
Finalmente, dejó de llover. El nivel del agua bajó. Noé vio el arco iris en el cielo. Dios prometió que nunca volvería a inundar la tierra.
|
|
|
|
I can be like Noah and listen to Heavenly Father. I know God keeps His promises. I am blessed when I obey His commandments.

Puedo ser como Noé y escuchar al Padre Celestial. Sé que Dios cumple Sus promesas. Soy bendecido cuando obedezco Sus mandamientos.

Abraham was a prophet. God made a covenant with Abraham and his wife, Sarah.

God promised to bless them. He told them they would have children. Abraham and Sarah promised to follow God.
|
|

Abraham and Sarah kept their promise. But they did not have any children for a long time. They got older and older.
|
|

Finally, when Abraham was 100 and Sarah was 90, they had a baby boy. They named him Isaac. They knew God had blessed them.

I can trust God. Sometimes blessings don’t come right away. But God always keeps His promises.

Joseph had 11 brothers. His father gave him a beautiful, colorful coat. God told Joseph that he would lead his brothers.
|

José tenía once hermanos. Su padre le dio una túnica hermosa, llena de colores. Dios le dijo a José que él dirigiría a sus hermanos.
|
|
|
|
Joseph’s older brothers were angry. They didn’t want Joseph to be their leader! They sold him to people going to Egypt, and he became a slave.
|
|
Los hermanos mayores de José se enojaron. ¡No querían que José fuera su líder! Lo vendieron a personas que iban a Egipto y se convirtió en esclavo.
|
|
|
|
Joseph worked hard. He made good choices, even when people lied about him and put him in prison.
|
|

|
|
|
Even during the hard times, Joseph trusted God. And God was with Joseph. Joseph became a leader in Egypt! When he got older, he helped lead his family, just like God said he would.

I can trust God like Joseph did. I can choose the right. God will be with me no matter what.

Joseph was a prophet. He lived in Egypt. One night Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, had a strange dream. He asked Joseph what the dream meant.
|
|
José fue un profeta que vivió en Egipto. Una noche, Faraón, rey de Egipto, tuvo un sueño extraño y le preguntó a José qué significaba el sueño.
|
|
|
|
God helped Joseph understand the dream. For seven years, people would have plenty of food. Then for seven years, they wouldn’t have enough. Joseph told Pharaoh.
|
|
Dios ayudó a José a comprender ese sueño. Durante siete años, las personas tendrían suficiente comida, pero luego, durante otros siete años, no tendrían suficiente, así que José se lo dijo a Faraón.
|
|
|
|
Joseph said they should save food now. Then they would be ready for hard times. Pharaoh put Joseph in charge of saving food. Joseph worked hard.

When the seven years of famine came, the people had enough food to eat. They even had enough to share with others.

Joseph was a leader in Egypt when a famine came. There wasn’t much to eat. Far away, Joseph’s family was hungry. They traveled to Egypt to find food.

José era líder en Egipto cuando se produjo una hambruna. No había mucho que comer. Lejos de allí, la familia de José tuvo hambre. Viajaron a Egipto para encontrar comida.

|
|
Joseph saw his brothers. But his brothers didn’t recognize him! Joseph asked if their father was still alive, and they said yes.
|
|

|
Joseph saw that his brothers had become nicer people. They took care of their younger brother, Benjamin. They cared about each other.

|
Joseph told his brothers who he really was. They could hardly believe it! Joseph and his brothers cried with happiness. Joseph forgave them for selling him as a slave. He said God led him to Egypt to save them from the famine.

I can be like Joseph. I can love my family and forgive others.

One day an Egyptian princess found a Hebrew baby in a basket. She named him Moses and raised him to become a prince.
|
|
Un día, una princesa egipcia encontró a un bebé hebreo en un cesto. Le puso por nombre Moisés y lo crio para que llegara a ser príncipe.
|
|
|
|
When Moses grew up, he didn’t like the way the Egyptians treated the Hebrews, their slaves. When Moses stood up for them, the Egyptians wanted to kill him. Moses had to run away. Then God told him to go back and free the Hebrew people.
|
|
Cuando Moisés creció, no le gustó el modo en que los egipcios trataban a los hebreos, sus esclavos. Cuando Moisés los defendió, los egipcios quisieron matarlo. Moisés tuvo que huir. Entonces Dios le dijo que regresara y liberara al pueblo hebreo.

Moses asked Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, to let the Hebrew people go. Pharaoh said no. God helped Moses curse the land so Pharaoh would change his mind. Flies, lice, and then frogs filled Egypt. Finally Pharaoh said the slaves could leave.

|
Moisés le pidió a Faraón, rey de Egipto, que dejara ir al pueblo hebreo. Faraón dijo que no. Dios ayudó a Moisés a maldecir la tierra para que Faraón cambiase de opinión. Egipto se llenó de moscas, piojos y luego ranas. Finalmente, Faraón dijo que los esclavos podían irse.

As the Hebrews were leaving, Pharaoh changed his mind and sent his army after them. When Moses’s people came to the Red Sea, God made a dry path through the sea so they could escape.

Mientras los hebreos se iban, Faraón cambió de opinión y envió a su ejército tras ellos. Cuando el pueblo de Moisés llegó al mar Rojo, Dios hizo un camino seco a través del mar para que pudieran escapar.

|
God gave Moses the Ten Commandments. Moses taught them to the people as they traveled toward the promised land. Finally they were safe and free!

I can be like Moses. I can follow the commandments. God will help me when I stand up for those who need help.

|
Moses was a prophet. He led God’s people toward the promised land. They walked for many days.
|
|

The people were hungry. They had no food. So God sent them food from heaven. It was called manna.
|
|

|
Each morning, the people gathered manna to eat. But it wouldn’t stay fresh overnight. They had to gather more the next day.

|
|
The manna reminds us of Jesus Christ. God sent manna to save the people. He also sent Jesus to earth to save us. We need Jesus every day, just like we need food every day.

El maná nos recuerda a Jesucristo. Dios mandó el maná para salvar al pueblo. También envió a Jesús a la tierra para salvarnos. Necesitamos a Jesús todos los días, al igual que necesitamos comida todos los días.

I will follow Jesus. He will give me strength and help me feel His love each day.

Hannah and her husband did have a baby! Hannah named him Samuel. She knew that God had answered her prayers.

As Samuel grew, Hannah kept her promise. She asked Eli, the priest at the temple, to teach Samuel how to serve God. Eli helped take care of Samuel.

|
|
David was a boy who took care of sheep. His big brothers were soldiers trying to protect their people. One day, David’s father sent him to take food to his brothers.
|
|
David era un niño que cuidaba ovejas. Sus hermanos mayores eran soldados que intentaban proteger a su pueblo. Un día, el padre de David le mandó que llevara comida a sus hermanos.
|
|
|
|
When David got there, he saw a giant soldier named Goliath. Goliath said if anyone could beat him, the war would be over. But no one was brave enough to fight him.
|
|
Cuando David llegó allí, vio a un soldado gigante llamado Goliat. Goliat dijo que si alguien podía vencerlo, la guerra se terminaría, pero no había nadie lo suficientemente valiente para luchar contra él.

|
David said he would fight Goliath. The king told David no. David was only a boy, and Goliath was strong and big! But David knew God would help him. Finally, the king said, “Go, and the Lord be with thee.”

David le dijo que él lucharía contra Goliat. El rey le dijo a David que no. David era solo un niño ¡y Goliat era fuerte y grande! Sin embargo, David sabía que Dios lo ayudaría. Al fin, el rey dijo: “Ve, y Jehová sea contigo”.

|
David did not wear armor like Goliath did. He picked up a stone and put it in his sling. He threw the stone at Goliath’s forehead. Goliath fell. David won! He had saved his people.

Sometimes I face scary problems. When I ask God for help, He helps me be strong.

A prophet named Elijah warned people a famine would come. There was no rain, and plants didn’t grow. Elijah drank water from a creek. God sent birds to bring him food. But then the creek dried up. God told Elijah to find a woman in town, and she would feed him.
|
|
Un profeta que se llamaba Elías advirtió al pueblo que llegaría una hambruna. No hubo lluvia y las plantas no crecieron. Elías bebía agua de un arroyo. Dios envió pájaros para que le llevaran comida, pero entonces el arroyo se secó. Dios le dijo a Elías que buscara a una mujer en el pueblo y que ella lo alimentaría.

Elijah found the woman and asked her for something to eat. The woman said she only had a little flour and oil left to feed herself and her son.
|

|
|
Elijah promised that if she shared her food with him, she would not run out. The widow had faith in the prophet Elijah and shared her food.

|
|
|
Each day, there was enough food for them to eat. It was a miracle! Then the widow’s son got sick and died. But Elijah brought him back to life. The woman was blessed for listening to the prophet.

Esther was a queen. She was married to the king of Babylon.
|

The king had a friend who was a bad man. He tricked the king into making a law that all Jews must be killed! The king didn’t know that his wife, Esther, was a Jew.
|
|
El rey tenía un amigo que era un hombre malo. ¡Engañó al rey para que hiciera una ley para matar a todos los judíos! El rey no sabía que su esposa, Ester, era judía.
|
|
|
|
Esther decided to ask her husband, the king, to save her people. But she was worried that he might be angry. Esther asked all of the Jews to fast and pray for her. Then Esther went to the king. He wasn’t angry!

Esther invited the king and his friend to a dinner. At the dinner, Esther told the king that she was a Jew. The king was angry that his friend had tricked him. He told the Jews that they could protect themselves. Esther had helped save her people!

Ester invitó al rey y al amigo de él a cenar. En la cena, Ester le dijo al rey que era judía. El rey se enojó porque su amigo lo había engañado. Dijo a los judíos que ellos podían protegerse a sí mismos. ¡Ester había ayudado a salvar a su pueblo!

Daniel was the king’s helper. The king liked Daniel because he was a good person. The other leaders were jealous! They made a plan to hurt Daniel.

Daniel era el ayudante del rey. Al rey le gustaba Daniel porque era una buena persona. ¡Los otros líderes estaban celosos! Prepararon un plan para hacer daño a Daniel.

They tricked the king into making a new law that whoever prayed to God would be thrown into a den of lions. They knew Daniel believed in God and would pray no matter what. When they saw Daniel praying, they told the king.

Engañaron al rey para que hiciera una nueva ley de que cualquiera que orase a Dios sería arrojado al foso de los leones. Sabían que Daniel creía en Dios y que oraría pasara lo que pasara. Cuando vieron a Daniel orando, se lo dijeron al rey.

The king was sad he had been tricked. But the law could not be changed.

El rey estaba triste por haber sido engañado, pero la ley no se podía cambiar.

The king put Daniel into a den of lions. He covered the door with a heavy stone. What was going to happen to Daniel?

El rey puso a Daniel en el foso de los leones. Tapó la puerta con una piedra pesada. ¿Qué le iba a ocurrir a Daniel?

|
|
God sent an angel to shut the mouths of the lions! In the morning, the king took Daniel out of the den. He was happy that Daniel was safe. He told all the kingdom that God had saved Daniel.
|
|
¡Dios envió a un ángel para cerrar la boca de los leones! Por la mañana, el rey sacó a Daniel del foso. Estaba contento de que Daniel estuviera a salvo. Dijo a todo el reino que Dios había salvado a Daniel.
|

|
I can be like Daniel by praying and trusting Heavenly Father!

God told Jonah to go on a mission. He was supposed to go to a city called Nineveh and tell the people to repent. But Jonah didn’t want to go there. He got on a ship going to a different city.

Dios le dijo a Jonás que saliera en una misión. Debía ir a una ciudad llamada Nínive y decir a las personas que se arrepintieran, pero Jonás no quería ir a ese lugar. Se subió a un barco que iba a una ciudad diferente.

|
A huge storm came. The sailors were afraid their ship would sink!

|
Vino una enorme tormenta. ¡Los marineros tenían miedo de que el barco se hundiera!
|
|
|
|
Jonah knew God had sent the storm because Jonah ran away. Jonah told the sailors to throw him overboard so the storm would stop.
|
|
Jonás sabía que Dios había enviado la tormenta porque él había huido. Jonás les dijo a los marineros que lo echaran por la borda para que cesara la tormenta.

|
God sent a whale to save Jonah. He was in the whale’s belly for three days. Jonah prayed. He decided to repent and follow God. God told the whale to spit Jonah out on dry land.
|
|
Dios envió a una ballena para que salvara a Jonás. Estuvo en el vientre de la ballena tres días. Jonás oró. Decidió arrepentirse y seguir a Dios. Dios ordenó a la ballena que arrojara a Jonás en tierra firme.
|

|
|
Jonah went to Nineveh. He taught the people there. And the people of Nineveh listened! They started following God again.
|
|
Jonás fue a Nínive. Enseñó a la gente de allí. ¡Y las personas de Nínive lo escucharon! Comenzaron a seguir a Dios de nuevo.
|
|
|
|
When I make a wrong choice, I can repent and try again. God loved Jonah, and God loves me!
|
|
Cuando tomo una mala decisión, puedo arrepentirme e intentarlo de nuevo. Dios amaba a Jonás y ¡Dios me ama a mí!
